What is Saffron?

Saffron is a spice derived from the flower of Crocus sativus, it has been used for more than 3,500 years and extends across many cultures, continents, and civilisations. The cultivation of Saffron requires intensive labour and time making it a highly priced spice. The collected stigmas are the medicinally active component of the plant, but it takes about 36,000 flowers to yield just 1 pound of the stigmas, which also increases the value of this plant as a medicinal herb. Saffron has been used in traditional folk medicines and Ayurvedic health systems as a herbal sedative, digestive aid, anti-inflammatory, expectorant and adaptogenic agent for centuries. Saffron is known as a ‘yogavahi’ herb in Ayurveda as it acts as a catalyst for other herbs it is taken with.

What is affron®?

affron® is a premium Saffron ingredient standardized to 3.5% Lepticrosalides™, which is responsible for the beneficial properties and organoleptic properties of affron®. It is backed by six human clinical studies that have shown to improve quality sleep. affron® uses a patented low temperature proprietary extraction process that creates superior Saffron quality with long-lasting active stability.  This process results in the highest quality of Saffron while producing less industrial processing, energy and zero chemicals. affron® is internationally patented both with its formulation and effects on health with the lowest daily dose of only 28 mg. It is the world's first clinical studied version of Saffron proven to help sleep, mood, cognition and vitality. affron® is creating a buzz amongst academics and scientists as the first Saffron extract on the market to be supported with peer-reviewed clinical evidence to demonstrate positive benefits across sleep quality.

Issues with regular Saffron?

The Saffron market is full with products containing raw or dried Saffron, which will reduce the efficacy of Saffron, as they don’t hold the same active constituents as in a standardized Saffron extract such as affron®. There are also no other Saffron products on the market today that are backed by preclinical or clinical studies to prove its efficacy.

Why do we use affron® in our Sleep Complex?

affron® is the most widely published Saffron extract in the world. Proven to help maintain a positive mood and get restorative sleep, every day. affron® contains Lepticrosalides® > 3.5% (crocins >3.5%, safranal 0.03%) by HPLC-DAD. Lepticrosalides® is a complex of bioactive compounds responsible for the beneficial and organoleptic properties of affron®. affron® genuine quality relies on local trusted sourcing, the selection of the Spanish species Crocus sativus L. and the exclusive and proprietary extraction process that uniquely concentrates and preserves the actives with low energy use.
