The supplements world is big. As technologies have improved, so too have our supplement options.
Now, you can take supplements for all kinds of reasons. From herbal to vitamin to protein, but what makes a supplement ethical?
We know it’s an important question for many out there, including ourselves, and we wanted to look at what we believe truly makes a supplement green, ethical and sustainable.
Value and Evidence-Based Supplements
Values are intrinsic to what all of us do. For those who lack proper values, standards and ethics will slip. Those with strong values will create products with high standards, and this is never truer than in the supplements world.
When considering whether or not a supplement is ethical, look at the company’s values and whether there’s research behind their suggestions.
At Earths Secret our philosophy, and the values therein, is simple. We take what the Earth has given us, grow and harvest it in a sustainable manner, and finally present it to our customers with as little interference as possible.
This philosophy filters into every aspect of what we do. Our supplements are created on a GFSI and GMP certified site, adhere to stringent Food Safety standards, and have full traceability and transparency related to suppliers.
We also create our products based on scientific literature and evidence. Our three Pillar ingredients, KSM-66® Ashwagandha, affron®, and HydroCurc®, are all testament to this and you can discover more about each here.
All of this combines to allow us to create ethical supplements which enrich our lives in the most sustainable manner possible.
Supplement Fillers to Avoid
Unfortunately value and evidence-based supplements aren’t always the norm and the supplements industry is susceptible to the pressures of big business.
This can result in some supplements containing fillers, binders or anti-caking agents. Some of the most common to look out for include:
- Anti-caking Agents (Silicon Dioxide & Magnesium Stearate)
- Fillers (Brown Rice Flour/Concentrate)
- Cellulose Gum
- Stearic Acid
- DiCalcium Phosphate
- Polydextrose
- Titanium Dioxide
- Methylcellulose
- Stearic Acid
- Maltodextrin
None of the above sound particularly natural, do they?
So why would a supplements business use any of the above fillers, binders or agents? In most cases it’s simply a money making or saving exercise and if some of the above are listed in the ingredients of a supplement, it may be a sign that their focus is on mass production and maximum profit rather than ethical, sustainable and healthy practice.
As with anything you might ingest, we recommend you read the labels and stay aware of what might be present.
Sustainable Supplements
Sustainability is another huge element in what makes (or doesn’t make) a supplement ethical.
At Earths Secret we believe in celebrating what the Earth has created and presented to us. There are incredible natural ingredients all around us, and we simply want to bring these to the world with as much love, respect and compassion as possible.
This means our ingredients are harvested in a safe and sustainable manner, leaving as little impact on the environment as possible.
It also means that our entire business is built with sustainability in mind. Everything including the ingredients, packaging, service and delivery has been specifically chosen with ethical and sustainable values in mind.
When you’re considering your own supplement choice, have a think about the entire package.
Our Mission
We understand the supplements world can potentially be a confusing place.
